Friends of Reed's (FORS)

The main objective of the Friends of Reed's School, or FORS as we are known, is to organise social events where parents can meet and enjoy themselves and experience the sense of community which is at the heart of Reed's School.  We usually hold one or two events per term and the money we raise is used to fund special projects which are not usually catered for within School or departmental budgets.

Date for your diaries:

Summer Sundowner - Saturday 18th June in the Marquee from 6pm to 10pm

Gather your friends and family for the end of term Summer Party with Al Fresco Dining and Dancing.

Entertainment will be provided by Lisa Kwei, back by popular demand, and by our very own Reed’s School Jazz Band

There will be a Food Village including:

Spade & Spoon: locally sourced and home-cooked Crackling Pork Baps, Beetroot Burgers and Chicken Salad Boxes.

The Pizza Oven: delicious wood-fired pizzas

Vintage Ice Cream Van

Well stocked Bar serving Pimms, wine and beer

Sweets Stall serving sweets, drinks and non-alcoholic cocktails

Children’s entertainment will be provided by students fund-raising for Calabash and the Rugby Tour

Tickets are on sale now: £15 per adult / £5 per child to include a welcome Pimms or soft drink.

Past Events

Quiz night - February 2016

Tickets for Quiz Night sold out in a matter of days again this year. The theme was Rio 2016, the hall was transformed with the flags of many nations and the atmosphere was distinctly carnival. Quizzers were welcomed with a Capirinha and were treated to a typical Brazilian meal of Feijoada and Banana Cake. We were delighted that David & Carmel Lloyd (ex-Reed’s Parents) were our Quiz Masters again this year and that Alan Bott (ex-Bursar) returned to compere for the 10th year!

Christmas Fair – December 2015

The ever-popular FORS Christmas Fair was held in the Sports Hall again this year with more stalls than ever with something for everyone. The Christmas Café served freshly made sandwiches, home-made cakes, tea and coffee and from 4pm mulled wine and warm mince pies were served whilst carols were being played by the Reed’s School Brass Ensemble.

This year parents either donated items for the Grand Raffle or contributed towards a 'Super Prize' – enabling us to put together the best raffle yet with a top prize of £300 of John Lewis vouchers together with a dazzling array of hampers. Thank you to everyone who decorated the hall, baked cakes, donated prizes or helped on the day.

We are now taking requests for booking for stalls for next year’s fair on Friday 25th November 2016. Please contact Jenny Cropper

Murder Mystery Dinner – November 2015

To tie in with the release of the new Bond film FORS, in conjunction with the Reed’s School Players (aka 6th Form Drama Students), FORS presented Quantum of Malice. Guests were treated to a delicious sit-down meal as a murder unfolded before their eyes. They then played detectives for the evening, interviewing suspects and working out 'Who Dunnit!'

This was a new event for FORS. The 6th Form drama students certainly rose to the occasion and we were amazed by how well prepared they were and their ability to ad-lib. They kept us guessing right to the end!

Getting to Know You Wine Tasting and AGM – September 2015

For new parents this is a great opportunity to meet everyone and find out about FORS and what we do. For existing parents, it’s a chance to catch up with old friends and make some new ones at our first big social event of the year. There were free drinks and food and a great fun wine tasting laid on for us by Majestic.

Summer Sundowner - June 2015

The Marquee on the lawn switched to Festival Mode on Midsummers Eve when Sundowners were treated to entertainment from the Reed’s Jazz Band, 6th Form Rock Band, roving magicians and a dance act in addition to 2 hours of music and dancing from headlining act Lisa Kwei. Even the less than ideal weather could not dampen our spirits as almost 400 parents and pupils were treated to a hog-roast, strawberries & cream, Pimms and wine and entertainment for the children.

Recent acquisitions by FORS

So far this year FORS have funded the purchase of litedeck staging for the Drama department, which got its first outing at the FORS Murder Dinner, together with the digitization of the Reed’s School Archive, an update of the sound system for the School Chapel, a flagpole and flag for the cricket pavilion and replacement starting blocks for the swimming pool.

In 2014/15 we were delighted to have supported the following acquisitions for the school: TIG Welder for FutureTech building, timing lights for Toastmasters, Fast Fold projection screen for Assembly Hall, Sports Shelter for PE/Rugby, £2000 contribution for new Grand Piano for Ensemble Room, Camera for photographing school sports, branded netball post protectors, video camera for the Drama Department, SatNavs for the school minibuses.
